The International Cricket Council’s (ICC) ODI team for the year 2016 has three Indian cricketers in it. India’s swashbuckling batsman Virat Kohli, Hitman Rohit Sharma and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja have been included in ICC ODI team of the year 2016.
Quick Read: There is no place for Virat Kohli in ICC’s Test Team of the Year 2016
The team selected by Gary Kirsten, Rahul Dravid and Kumar Sangakkara was chosen keeping in mind players’ performances in the period from 14 September 2015 to 20 September 2016. Virat Kohli was ignored in the Test team but he has been picked and made to lead ICC ODI Team of the Year 2016. Kohli was in outstanding form throughout the year 2016 across all three formats of the game. Many eyebrows were raised when he wasn’t picked in ICC Test team for the year 2016.
Australia’s David Warner and South Africa’s wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock have been picked to open the innings, followed by Rohit Sharma at number 3 and Virat Kohli at 4. South Africa’s dashing batsman AB de Villiers will bat at number 5, while England’s aggressive batsman Jos Buttler will play the role of a finisher along side Australia’s Mitchell Marsh at number 6 and 7 respectively.
In the bowling department, India’s all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and West Indies’ Sunil Narine will be incharge of spin department, whereas Mitchell and Kagiso will take the new ball in ICC ODI team for the year 2016.
