The dismissal of Virat Kohli stirred some controversy during the IPL 2024 match between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, April 21.
Kohli walked out to open the innings for RCB, chasing a target of 223 runs. He kickstarted the innings on a positive note by smashing two stunning sixes. However, his aggressive start was cut short when Harshit Rana bowled a slower delivery, catching Kohli off-guard. Kohli tried to attempt the delivery, however, he was dismissed after scoring 18 runs off seven deliveries.

Rana cleanly completed the catch, sparking widespread speculation, including in the commentary box, where many, including Kohli himself, initially suspected it might have been a no-ball. However, after the umpires reviewed the delivery, the third umpire confirmed its legality in terms of height. The Decision Review System (DRS) trajectory showed a fair delivery below the waistline, resulting in Kohli’s dismissal.
After the DRS review, Virat was visibly frustrated by the turn of events. While going back to the pavilion, Virat was seen getting engaged in a heated exchange with the umpires. Faf du Plessis was also seen discussing the decision with the umpires at the Eden Gardens.
In another viral video, Kohli’s frustration with the dismissal is visible as he could be seen slamming his gloves on his bat and shaking his head on his back. He also vented his frustration by thrashing a dustbin, with his gloves falling off in the process. This act left the fans surprised. The video of the same has been going viral on the internet.
