Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli joined in the celebrations as the Royal Challengers Bangalore Women’s team clinched victory in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024. Led by Smriti Mandhana, the team made history at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) emerged victorious over Delhi Capitals (DC) to claim their maiden trophy in franchise cricket. They showcased a brilliant brand of cricket throughout the tournament, and in the crucial moments, they outclassed the opposition to secure the title.
RCB faced a challenging start while bowling after Delhi Capitals made a solid beginning. However, RCB showcased remarkable resilience as they managed to restrict Delhi Capitals to just 113 runs, despite their initial setback.
Shreyanka Patil emerged as the standout performer with the ball, securing four wickets, while Sophie Molineux also contributed significantly with three wickets. Their stellar bowling display played a crucial role in ending RCB’s title drought in league cricket.
Ellyse Perry came in at No.3 and played a crucial innings for her team in the tournament final, remaining unbeaten on 35 runs to guide RCB to victory. Supported by Richa Ghosh (17*), RCB secured an 8-wicket win, claiming their maiden title in the league.

Meanwhile, after the win, there was a special moment during the celebrations as Virat Kohli video-called the women’s team to congratulate Smriti Mandhana and her teammates on their historic win. The video of the same has gone crazily viral on the internet, watch it here:

TV screens captured the moment as Kohli was seen on a video call with Mandhana and other players, with the support staff of RCB bringing the phone onto the field. Kohli had returned to India on Sunday after the birth of his child, Akaay, in the United Kingdom.
Later, during the post-match conference, Smriti Mandhana also revealed what Virat Kohli said during the video call, she revealed:
“I couldn’t hear what he (Virat) said during the video call as it was very noisy out there. But there was happiness on his face. He spoke to us last season after our poor run and boosted our morale. Maybe I will chat with him when we reach Bangalore.”
