Former Indian and RCB captain Virat Kohli paid an emotional tribute to his former captain MS Dhoni as the latter decided to hand over the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings to star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

Time and again, Kohli had said that the word captain has always meant Dhoni for him. There’s no doubt to the fact that MS Dhoni has played a special role in Virat Kohli’s life. Both the cricketers share a great bond of friendship with each other. It was under the guidance of Dhoni that Kohli first played for the Indian cricket team. He then went on to take over the reins of Test captaincy of India from Dhoni.

On Thursday, moments after Chennai Super Kings announced MS Dhoni’s decision of stepping down from the captaincy position, Virat Kohli took to Twitter and paid rich tributes to the legendary skipper. In his Tweet, Virat Kohli said that it might be the beginning of a new chapter, but fans will not forget that. He wrote:

“Legendary captaincy tenure in yellow skip. A chapter fans will never forget. Respect always.”

Earlier, defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) announced that iconic wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni has decided to quit as the captain of the side ahead of the start of IPL 2022. The official statement released by CSK read:

“MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai Super Kings and picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team. Jadeja, who has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will only be the third player to lead CSK. Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond,”

Though, MS Dhoni has retired from the captaincy position but he will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings as a pure batter. CSK will open their IPL 2022 campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 27th at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.
