The ongoing UAE leg of the Indian Premier League is going on in full swing as the race of the play-offs gets heated up. The race towards the end is making the contest even more intriguing for the cricket on-lookers. While everyone is coming up with their favorites to win this season, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag wants to see a new team winning the title this season.

As of now, MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings is sitting at the top of the points table and has already qualified for the playoffs with 18 points in their kitty. Delhi Capitals has also qualified for the playoffs with 16 points. RCB, on the other hand, has shown great character and is sitting on the third position but is yet to make it to the playoffs. The race for the fourth position is still on with teams competing with each other.

Virender Sehwag Doesn’t Want Mumbai Indians To Reach The Top, Here’s Why

While speaking on Cricbuzz Virender Sehwag reckoned that he doesn’t want Mumbai Indians to make it to the top this time and that some new team should lift the trophy this time. He said:

“I don’t want Mumbai Indians to reach the top this year, a new team should qualify and we should get a new champion. It could be Bangalore, Delhi, or Punjab,”

Mumbai Indians has been one of the most successful teams of the Indian Premier League, having won the trophy 5 times so far. They are known for their comebacks from the crunch situations. Recalling the past incidents of Mumbai Indians where the team bounced back and won the title even when they looked in a spot of bother and stated that the same can be repeated this year as well. He said:

“If Mumbai Indians win their remaining matches, I think they can easily make it to the playoffs because they will have 16 points if they win their remaining matches. But it will not be easy. Sometimes, you make mistakes when you are desperate to win, and those mistakes lead to your defeat.”

He added:

“But looking at Mumbai’s history, it is that whenever they find themselves in a situation where they are currently are in IPL 2021, they have won the do-or-die games, qualified for the playoffs and they have even made it to the final. So, if we look at the historic aspect, yes, Mumbai Indians can do it again. But I don’t believe much in history,”
