Former India captain Virender Sehwag talked about the performance of Indian batter KL Rahul and after the right-hander was runout in the recently played 2nd ODI match between India and West Indies.
Virender Sehwag suggested that KL Rahul should work hard on his running between the wickets. Sehwag feels that KL Rahul had an excellent chance to put up a big score against the West Indies after he was involved in a mix-up with Suryakumar Yadav that led to his departure in the 2nd ODI match.
The sensational batter walked out to bat at No. 4 in a batting line-up that had wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant opened the innings for team India. KL Rahul, who had missed the first ODI match, played a stunning knock of 49 runs off 48 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes.
Speaking about the performance of KL Rahul in a video shared by him on social media, Sehwag said: “KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav stitched an important partnership after the early blows. Rahul played well and could have gone on to score big runs, if not for the runout. There was an easy chance of a double, but he stopped in the middle, which caused the dismissal. He must work on his running between the wickets… shouldn’t repeat mistakes he made in Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings),”
Furthermore, Sehwag also admitted the fact he was shocked to see Rishabh Pant opening the innings in the second ODI. Team India has been trying various new opening combinations, as Rohit Sharma opened with Ishan Kishan in the first ODI as Shikhar Dhawan missed both the first two matches due to COVID complications. He said:
“I was surprised to see Rishabh Pant open. But many were surprised when I was promoted to the opening spot from the middle-order and also when Rohit Sharma was. Both of us ultimately succeeded as openers and Pant can be very dangerous if he is able to establish himself at that position in white-ball cricket,”
Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team has taken an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the ongoing 3-match ODI series, with team India winning both the first two games. The third and the last ODI match will take place today at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
