Chennai Super Kings embarked on their journey under new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad with a positive start, defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru by six wickets in Chennai. RCB posted 173/6 batting first, and CSK comfortably chased down the target.
“Feel privileged. But I want to try and be in my shoes, not fill anybody’s shoes,” Gaikwad said before the start of the tournament.
Ruturaj’s captaincy impressed former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan too. “Brilliant come back by CSK after the first 26 balls. Ruturaj’s bowling changes under pressure were impressive. #CSKvsRCB,” praised Irfan Pathan on X.

Virender Sehwag Slammed Broadcasters For Ignoring Ruturaj Gaikwad
However, during the match, the cameras captured Dhoni setting the field, with the focus often on him. Virender Sehwag, in his typical style, commented on this observation.
“Bhai Ruturaj ka bhi chahraa dekha do ek do baar(in camera) vo bhi captain hai sirf Dhoni ka hi Chahraa dekha raha hai (Brother, Please show Rituraj’s face as well (in camera), he is captain. The cameraman is showing only Dhoni’s face),” Sehwag could be heard as saying.
In the IPL opener, Mustafizur Rahman’s clever bowling and Ravindra Jadeja’s experience helped Chennai Super Kings secure a comfortable six-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore. CSK, known for their dominance over RCB at home since 2008, continued their winning streak.
Mustafizur’s remarkable bowling, taking 4 wickets for 29 runs, restricted RCB to 173/6. Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik’s partnership was RCB’s highlight.
In the chase, Jadeja and Shivam Dube’s partnership ensured CSK’s victory, with Rachin Ravindra and Ajinkya Rahane contributing well. Glenn Maxwell’s excellent fielding dismissed Rahane.
RCB fought back thanks to Mustafizur’s bowling and Rawat’s batting, but CSK’s strong performance secured the win.
