VVS Laxman Makes A Huge Statement On India’s Playing XI

VVS Laxman Bats For Shreyas Iyer: Shreyas Iyer’s dream debut in the first match of the ongoing Test series between India and New Zealand, has increased Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli’s problem many folds.

VVS Laxman Makes A Huge Statement On India’s Playing XI

A huge section of fans and pundits have been asking the think-tank to drop Ajinkya Rahane because of his poor form, and now with Shreyas Iyer scoring a hundred and a fifty on his debut and Virat Kohli’s return to the squad in the second match, Rahane’s place has come under more scrutiny than ever before.

Former Indian cricketer and well-known commentator VVS Laxman has also raised his voice for Iyer’s place in the squad and asked for Mayank Agarwal’s exclusion. Speaking on a show for the Star Sports, Laxman said that Shreyas Iyer batted brilliantly in both the innings and he must retain his spot in the second match.

“Shreyas Iyer batted in both the innings and to get a hundred in his first Test series and then to follow it up with a fantastic half-century. Both these innings, mind you, have come when the team was under pressure, so it was a fantastic performance from Shreyas Iyer,” said VVS Laxman on Star Sports.

VVS Laxman also added that Mayank Agarwal, who couldn’t make a notable contribution in both the innings, should be dropped and Cheteshwar Pujara should open the innings with Shubman Gill.

“It will be difficult, but I believe that Mayank Aggarwal in both the innings gave an underwhelming performance and was uncomfortable at the crease. Cheteshwar Pujara has the ability to open, he has opened the innings previously,” VVS Laxman added.

“The number 3 position can be filled by Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli can come at number 4 and Shreyas can come in at number 5 because how can you ignore his performance. So, I think it’s a tough call that Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli have to take. I hope that they take the right decision and don’t ignore the performance of Shreyas Iyer,” added former player.
