India gained positives in Mohammed Shami, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav in the first two ODIs, winning those two games by big margins of 5 wickets and 99 runs. However, while India were playing their second-string side with 4-5 players rested or injured, Australia too were without a few of their first-choice players.

Mohammed Siraj, who was rested from the first two ODIs, is also expected to return to the XI.

However, India have also decided to rest Shubman Gill, Shardul Thakur, Hardik Pandya, and Mohammed Shami, while Axar Patel is not yet fit. This means that Ishan Kishan will open alongside Rohit Sharma, while Virat Kohli will slot back at number 3, pushing Iyer, who batted at 3 in the first two games, down to number 4, and KL Rahul to number 5. With Hardik rested, Suryakumar Yadav is likely to retain his place at number 6.
Bumrah and Siraj will take the place of Shami and Prasidh, while Kuldeep will replace Thakur and join Ashwin and Jadeja in the spin department. Ruturaj Gaikwad has been released to fly to China for the Asian Games.
For Australia, Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc have been declared fit. Pat Cummins, who was rested from the 2nd ODI, is also likely to return today.
Even though Australia have lost the series, they would look to avoid what could be their first-ever whitewash against India in ODIs.
