India’s star opener KL Rahul powered his side to a strong start on the opening day of the ongoing 1st Test match of the ongoing 3-match Test series against South Africa at the SuperSport Park in Centurion on Sunday. Having regained his form during the England test earlier this year, KL Rahul started from where he left off last time as he scored his seventh Test ton by putting up an impressive display of grit to bat.

Rahul teamed up with Mayank Agarwal to stitch a century-opening partnership. While Rahul was more watchful to start with, showing clarity on his every move, on other hand, Mayank started off quick and smashed the Proteas bowlers to all the corners of the ground. Rahul and Mayank became only the third Indian opening pair to stitch a century stand in 21 games in South Africa.

However, soon India lost Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara’s wickets in quick succession but Rahul continued to keep the scoreboard ticking. Rahul formed another crucial partnership with the skipper, Virat Kohli, adding 82 runs before Kohli walked back to the pavilion. Eventually, Rahul soon scored his 7th Test century in 218 deliveries.

With this century, KL Rahul also joined the elite list of visiting openers to have Test hundreds in Australia, England, and South Africa. He also became the second opening batsman to score a Test century in South Africa. Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer was the first one to score a century in South Africa, where he had amassed 116 runs in Cape Town in 2006/2007.

Meanwhile, Wasim Jaffer, who is known for his hilarious sense of humor and witty Tweets, welcomed KL Rahul in the ‘exclusive’ club of Indian openers with a Test ton in South Africa with a hilarious meme. Jaffer took to his Twitter and shared a hilarious meme from a famous Bollywood movie. Sharing the meme, Jaffer wrote:

“Welcome to the exclusive club of Indian openers with a Test hundred in South Africa KL. Very well played.”
