As the new Mumbai Indians captain, Hardik Pandya made the bold call to tell Rohit Sharma, the former MI captain, to field on the boundary.

Sunday evening kick-started a new era for Mumbai Indians as Hardik Pandya took charge against his former team, Gujarat Titans, in IPL 2024 in Ahmedabad.

During his captaincy tenure, Rohit Sharma rarely fielded at the boundary line and stood mostly either at mid-on/mid-off and cover/mid-wicket so that he could continuously interact with the bowlers. Now, however, the Rohit will have to get used to fielding at the boundary line as Hardik is in charge and the all-rounder will do the talking and planning duties with the bowlers.

On Sunday, against Gujarat, the first big glimpse of this shift in the status was seen on the field when Hardik Pandya ordered Rohit Sharma to field at the boundary line.

Surprised by this Rohit gave a “Who, me?” reaction and then went away jogging to the boundary. Hardik was then seen moving Rohit to his left and right according to the requirements.

This caused chaos on social media with fans feeling that Hardik was disrespecting the legend and former captain Rohit Sharma.

Meanwhile, talking about the match, Jasprit Bumrah bowled superbly and returned with figures of 3/14, which helped MI restrict GT to 168/6. For GT, no batter could score a fifty with Sai Sudharsan being the top-scorer with 45, followed by Shubman Gill, the new GT captain, who scored 31.
