Heinrich Klaasen, the man who tormented the opposition bowlers in his first two outings in the IPL 2024, met his match with ace Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan. It needed a special googly from Rashid to topple Klaasen, who angrily punched his bat hardly after being bowled.
SRH and GT met in a day game on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Pat Cummins, the SRH captain, won the toss and elected to bat first on a hot afternoon in Ahmedabad. It was a two-paced surface at the Narendra Modi Stadium with something in it for everyone – the batters, pacers, and spinners.
Heinrich Klaasen, who had smashed 63 and 80* in his first two innings this tournament, came in at number 5 in the 10th over, and started off in his traditional aggressive manner by whacking 2 sixes and a four. He already was in the fifth gear, batting at 24* in 12 balls, before Rashid Khan cut short his stay with a sensational piece of bowling.
Seeing a length ball in line of the stumps, Heinrich Klaasen went for a slog after moving to the legside and exposing his stumps. This time, though, Klaasen missed the ball – a googly that kept coming into him and cut down the space he needed to connect the shot – as it stayed a touch low and crashed into the stumps.
Unhappy with his dismissal, Klaasen punched the bat in anger while Rashid had his arms widened in his calm, no-fuss yet swagger-filled celebration.
