South African cricketer Keshav Maharaj has finally lifted the lid on the ‘Ram Siya Ram‘ song topic, revealing that he requests the ground media team to play the song whenever he comes out to bat.
In the recent home matches across formats against India, the ground DJ would play the ‘Ram Siya Ram’ song every time Maharaj would make his entrance with the bat in hand. It became a topic of conversation among the fans.
For the unversed, Keshav Maharaj is Hindu by religion and is a devotee of lord Ram, lord Hanuman, and other Hindu gods.
Speaking in the captain’s press conference ahead of the SA20 league, Maharaj said that this song is a way of expressing gratitude to god for giving him his blessing and opportunities.
Speaking with PTI, Keshav Maharaj said, “Obviously, something that I put forward to the media lady and requested that song to be played. For me, God has been my greatest blessing, giving me guidance and opportunity. So, it’s the least that I can do, and it also just gets you in your zone. It’s a nice feeling walking out (into the ground) to hear ‘Ram Siya Ram’ playing in the background.”
