[Watch] Matheesha Pathirana Takes The Best Catch Of IPL 2024 Of Warner; MS Dhoni Applauds

Such unbelievable was the catch from CSK’s Matheesha Pathirana that DC opener David Warner, the batsman dismissed, could only smile at it. And such incredulous was the catch that even MS Dhoni applauded it.

CSK and DC met on Sunday evening for match number 11 of the IPL 2024 at Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.

Delhi, after Rishabh Pant won the toss and elected to bat first, got off to a flier from Warner and Prithvi Shaw, the pair posting an opening partnership of 93 runs in 9.3 overs. It needed a special flying effort from Matheesha Pathirana to break this stand with Warner’s dismissal.

On most days, even with that mistimed stroke from Warner, the catch wouldn’t have been taken. But not this time.

Warner played a reverse hit to Mustafizur’s delivery that is full and outside the off-stump and there to be hit, even with it being a slower ball of 112 KPH. Warner has seen the ball well and hit it well. The ball is flying to the right of Pathirana, who is positioned at short third man.

It looks like it would either go for a boundary, or at best, Pathirana would be able to get his hand in the way and stop the boundary. But it never looked like it would be taken, not least by Pathirana, who is not a great fielder by any imagination.

But Pathirana stretches the imagination here and stretches his right hand as much as he can while putting in a Superman-like dive. He manages to pluck the ball one-handed and complete the catch. He lays down on the ground in disbelief at himself managing to take a one-handed stunner.

MS Dhoni applauds the catch as he walks up to Matheesha Pathirana to congratulate him, while commentator Harsha Bhogle is going wild in the commentary box with “What a catch”.
