India captain Rohit Sharma was clearly frustrated with Aiden Markram’s century, while batting alongside tailenders, in the second innings of the Cape Town Test. Rohit vented his frustration and anger on the cricket ball as he threw it fiercely on the ground after taking Markram’s catch.

India were hoping to bowl South Africa out early in the first session of Day 2 at Newlands and get a target of less than 50 runs. It looked like India would get their desire fulfilled when South Africa were reduced to 111/7 with a lead of only 13 runs as Jasprit Bumrah took a sensational five-wicket haul.

However, another twist happened in this already entertaining game as Aiden Markram, the opener who had still survived Bumrah’s fireballs in the morning hour, went on a thunderous counter-attack against the likes of Siraj, Mukesh, and Prasidh.

On a pitch where Virat Kohli’s 46 was the highest score on Day 1 and until Markram crossed it, the South African opener smashed a stunning century. That 80 runs of Markram’s 106 runs came in fours and sixes was simply astonishing; on the pitch where playing any kind of stroke could yield a wicket for the bowler, Markam walloped 17 fours and 2 sixes against the Indian pacers.

Markram was, though, also handed a slice of luck when wicket-keeper KL Rahul dropped his catch, when he was on 73 runs, of Bumrah’s bowling. Markram then pounced on Krishna severely, in particular, for 2 sixes and 2 fours in one of Krishna’s overs. He even cracked Bumrah for a couple of fours to bring up his hundred, but Siraj eventually got him out as he mistimed a short ball.

The ball went high in the air but Rohit Sharma, positioned at long-off, ran in and took a good catch under pressure.

India finally got Markram’s wicket and Rohit Sharma threw the ball with all his power on the ground to express his frustration at Markram staying for so long at the crease.
