Following the footsteps of former captain MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma continued the tradition of handing the series-winning trophy to youngsters and quietly stood in the corner following India’s 4-1 series win over Ben Stokes’ Bazballers.
India sealed the Dharamsala Test inside three days, winning by an innings and 64 runs. This concluded this 5-Test series and India extended their home dominance.
The last time India lost a home series was in 2012, to Alastair Cook’s England team. Since then India have won all their home Test series, never losing more than one Test match in any series, and overall losing only four Test matches in the entire last dozen years.
Kuldeep Yadav was the Man of the Match in the Dharamsala Test while Yashasvi Jaiswal, who became only the second Indian batter to score over 700 runs in a Test series, bagged the Man of the Series award.
India captain Rohit Sharma received the series-winning trophy from the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah in Dharamsala. Taking the trophy, Rohit Sharma went toward his teammates who were already ready for the photo. Rohit straightaway walked toward youngsters Sarfaraz Khan and Devdutt Padikkal who were standing in the middle and handed them the trophy, while he calmly walked to the end of the line without any fuss.

Jaiswal finished with series with 712 runs which he scored with the help of two double centuries. His runs came at a healthy strike rate of 79. Captain Rohit was effusive in praise for the young left-handed opener.
Sharma said, “I can talk about him now. Guy’s got a long way to go. Started off really well. This is amazing to be in this position for him personally. We saw through the series he wants to take on the bowlers and that is something that we want to encourage. When the guy’s got talent like that, who can play the shots like that, puts bowlers under pressure from the word go, that’s something that we want to encourage and something we want to take forward.
“Obviously there will be a lot of challenges for him moving forward, but I’m pretty sure he is a tough guy. He has come a long way to where he is right now.”
