Virat Kohli may have not done much with the bat in the opening match of IPL 2024, but he kept his spirits high in entertaining the Chennai crowd at the M. A. Chidambaram stadium, which is also known as Chepauk.
Defending champions CSK hosted RCB to kick start the IPL 2024 season at Chepauk on Friday. Faf du Plessis, the RCB skipper, won the toss and elected to bat, and RCB put up 173 on the board.
Then during CSK’s innings, Virat Kohli, when he was standing near the boundary line, shook his leg and danced to the famous South Indian song ‘Apdi Pode’. As the DJ played the high-voltage song at full volume, Kohli turned toward the Chepauk crowd and shook his body. He then also made a few dancing steps. The Chennai crowd loved this moment from the 35-year-old RCB star who is fan favourite all over the world.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli failed with the bat in the first match of IPL 2024. He managed to score 21 runs in 20 balls, hitting only one six and no boundary. Kohli showed signs of rustiness on his return, but he was expected to fare better than this. This knock comes in the backdrop of the news that the BCCI is pondering over dropping Virat Kohli from the T20 World Cup team.
RCB started well with Du Plessis smashing 35 runs in 23 balls while Virat Kohli was away from the strike for most of the powerplay. Du Plessis’ wicket, in the 5th over, triggered a collapse as RCB went from 41/0 to 42/3. Kohli, who had missed the entire India vs England Test series for the birth of his child, couldn’t connect his shots today on either side of the wicket that had a bit extra bounce early on before it flattened out.
Virat Kohli got out to Mustafizure Rahman, caught brilliantly by Ajinkya Rahane and Rachin Ravindra on the legside boundary as the duo combined to take a relay catch.
