What Will Happen If Two Teams Have The Same NRR? Find It Out

What Will Happen If Two Teams Have The Same NRR? : The league stage in the ongoing edition of the IPL 2020 is coming to an end soon and the competition is all set to take off for the thrilling layoffs that will begin from November 5. With Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab already eliminated from the ongoing league and Mumbai Indians already qualified for the playoffs, rest of the teams are fighting hard to grab a spot in the three vacant spots for playoffs IPL 2020.

Though only two games are remaining but the qualification scenario is still very complicated as at least two of the remaining teams will have to finish with 14 points and their Net Run Rate will play an important role in their selection for qualification.

The situation is simpler for Sunrisers Hyderabad as if they win, their qualification for the playoffs is guaranteed, however, if not, the other three teams will qualify for the playoffs.

The winner of the ongoing DC vs RCB game will automatically enter the knockout stages. So in case, RCB manages to defeat DC, they will lock their horns with Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 1 on November 5.

The net run rates will come into the picture only if DC defeats RCB tonight and SRH manages to win tomorrow, SRH will sit on the second spot in the points table with NRR (+0.555) and a victory against MI will guarantee them a spot in playoffs 2020.

In such a situation, RCB and KKR will share the 14 points – with the NRR of the 2 sides left to break the deadlock. However, if RCB fails then its NRR will collapse and they won’t be able to make it to the playoffs.

However, one of the most confusing scenarios will occur when the NRR of the two teams is tied. As per the rule of BCCI in such a case, the team which has picked the most number of wickets will be ranked higher.

Here’s the rule, check it out:

“16.10.2.3: If following the net run rate calculation above there are teams which are still equal, then the team with the higher number of wickets taken per fair balls bowled in the matches played that season in which results were achieved will be placed in the higher position;

16.10.2.4: If still equal at the end of the regular season then the team position will be determined by drawing lots.”

Well, it will be interesting to see, which team will be able to enter the playoffs.
