The auction for the IPL 2023 was a bumper event for the BCCI as the event garnered plenty of attention from fans across the world with two of the most expensive signings in the IPL being made on that day: Sam Curran (INR 18.5 crore by Punjab Kings) and Cameron Green (INR 17.5 crore by Mumbai Indians).

80 players were sold in the IPL 2023 auction with all 10 franchises looking to fill the gaps in their squad with experienced players while also keeping a tab of the youth who can take care of the future of the franchise.

Who is the youngest player in IPL 2023?

The youngest player to be sold at the IPL 2023 auction, and the youngest to be part of the IPL 2023 tournament is Shaik Rasheed. At the time of writing, a right-handed talented batsman from Andhra Pradesh, Shaik Rasheed is only 18 years and 98 days.

Shaik Rasheed was bought by the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2023 auction for his base price of INR 20 lakh.

Rasheed made his Ranji trophy debut for Andhra in February 2022 and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy debut in October. He averages 28 in 3 professional T20 games, but CSK won’t mind having him on the bench and grooming him. In 5 first-class games this year for Andhra, Rasheed scored 211 runs with the help of one half-century.

Shaik Rasheed was the vice-captain of the Indian under-19 team that won the under-19 World Cup 2022 in the West Indies and the ACC U19 Asia Cup 2021; in both tournaments, he impressed everyone with his stroke-making and class. The youngster was key in India’s victory at the under-19 World Cup: in the semi-final against Australia, he struck 94 after India lost both openers early, and then in the final against England, Shaik Rasheed hit a half-century in a tricky chase that made India’s 4-wicket win in the final possible.

The IPL 2023 is reportedly set to kick off on March 31 or April 1. The tournament will return to the home and away format for the first time since 2019.
