He shattered the record for the youngest hitter to achieve a double century in ODI cricket when he scored 208 runs off of 149 deliveries against New Zealand on January 18 in Hyderabad during the first of a three-match series.
During the T20I series against the Black Caps, the right-handed batter later surpassed Virat Kohli’s record to become the top individual scorer for India in T20Is. On February 1st, during the third Twenty20 International, which was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten 126 runs off 63 balls.
