The Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy will play host to the resumption of the India vs Pakistan rivalry in cricket as Group A of the Asia Cup 2023 takes centerstage on Saturday, September 2.
Babar Azam’s team blew away Nepal in the opening encounter of the tournament in Multan by 238 runs and now will play India in Pallekele.
This is the first encounter between the two teams since their epic battle at the MCG last year in the T20 World Cup 2022 when Virat Kohli played arguably the greatest and most memorable T20I innings.
While the fans are excited for this epic rivalry to resume, there is also concern around about the rain as the match is under a big threat of rain today.
The weather reports are no promising: there is a 91% probability of daytime rain and an 87% chance of rain during the night.
According to AccuWeather, there is a shower forecasted for 3 PM, which is the match start time, then at 7 PM, then at 9 PM and beyond it is predicted to rain in the night.
So not only we could have a delayed start, and a truncated game, but, even worse: the IND vs PAK match is under a massive threat of being washed out. For an ODI match to have a result, the match must constitute at least 20 overs per innings. While the match officials will try their best to have at least 20 overs per innings, there is a chance that the game could end in a no result.
What will happen if India vs Pakistan is washed out? Will India get knocked out
If the India-Pakistan game on September 2 is washed out, both teams will get one point each; this would mean that Pakistan will qualify for the Super 4 round, while the India-Nepal match will become a must-win game for both teams. Nepal lost the first match heavily to Pakistan, but if India-Pakistan is washed out, they will only need a victory over India to proceed to Super 4.
