Legendary cricketer MS Dhoni, who is 40-years-old, announced his international retirement on 15 August 2020. He only turns up to play the game of cricket only once a year for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. However, the way MS Dhoni has performed in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League, it feels like Dhoni has a lot of cricket left in him.
Considering his performances in the last two seasons of the IPL, it won’t be wrong to say that he has turned back the clock with his batting. Though he might have scored just 199 runs from 12 games so far in IPL 2022, however, these numbers don’t reflect just how Dhoni looked in the tournament, especially when his team was struggling badly to score runs.
On Thursday, during the CSK vs MI game, when CSK batters flopped to perform once again, MSD stood there like a lone warrior and scored an unbeaten knock of 36 runs off 33 balls, smashing 4 fours and 2 sixes to get a total of the team closer to 100.
While there were many who raised eyebrows at his strike rate, but given the state of his innings, his running between the wickets impressed one and all with his running between the wickets. The 40-year-old Dhoni ran like a 20-year-old and the same has left many in awe of the legendary cricketer.
Meanwhile, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar said he is hopeful that MS Dhoni will return to play for Chennai Super Kings in the next season of the Indian Premier League. His statements came after Chennai was knocked out of the playoffs race by Mumbai Indians on Thursday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Talking about Dhoni’s performances, Gavaskar feels that the former Indian captain is still keen and enthusiastic about the game and that he is “definitely not” going to retire anytime soon. He said:
“Well, I mean, look at the way he has played. He is clearly showing he is very keen, still enthusiastic about the game,”
