Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram didn’t hold himself back in criticizing the Pakistan team for their on and off mistakes that led to a shocking defeat at the hands of Afghanistan in Chennai. Pakistan lost by 8 wickets as Afghanistan gunned down the target of 283 runs in 49 overs.
This loss has put the Pakistan team in a corner: they now have 3 losses in 5 games and need to win their remaining 4 matches to keep their semi-final dreams alive in World Cup 2023.
Although Babar Azam might have thought that their 282-run total might have been enough on a pitch that didn’t look easy to bat on, Wasim Akram pointed out how comfortably the Afghanistan batters batted and didn’t give much chances. The legendary fast bowler called it an “embarrassing” show from the Men In Green as Afghanistan lost only two wickets.

Wasim Akram was annoyed, exasperated, and simply disappointed at the several fielding lapses from the Pakistani fielders. At least four times the fielders in the deep made mistakes which turned ones and twos into boundaries.
Wasim Akram blasted Pakistani players for their horrific fielding and fitness standards, saying that there is no fitness tests for the players and that they keep eating mutton all day and get unfit.
“It was embarrassing today. To reach 280-odd losing just two wickets is pretty big. Wet pitch or no, look at the fielding, the fitness levels. We’ve been screaming for the last 3 weeks that these players haven’t undergone a fitness test in the last two years. If I start taking individual names, their faces will drop. Looks like these guys are gobbling 8 kilos of mutton every day. Should there not be tests,” Akram told A Sports.
“It is very hurting. But I’m very happy for Afghanistan. Also, don’t forget because you know they deserve it. The way they handle the pressure, the way they played cricket. I’m happy for them. I am gutted because you know what I’ve seen today,” Waqar Younis said on Star Sports.
