S Sajana’s Last Ball Six Helps MI Beat DC: The 2024 Women’s Premier League (WPL) began with an exciting match where the defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) secured a four-wicket victory over the Delhi Capitals (DC). The win came with a thrilling last-ball six hit by debutant S Sajana.

Facing the final delivery of the match, Sajeevan Sajana, aged 29, stepped up to bat after Harmanpreet Kaur was dismissed on the second-last ball. Mumbai Indians needed five runs to win. Alice Capsey, who had earlier bowled impressively, had taken two wickets in the over but conceded eight runs so far.

Needing five runs off the final delivery, Sajeevan Sajana bravely left her crease and struck Alice Capsey’s delivery over the long-on boundary. Despite a fielder’s attempt to catch the ball, it sailed over for a six. With that shot, Mumbai Indians secured victory with four wickets remaining.

Sajeevan Sajana, who had recently showcased her skills in the Senior Women’s T20 Challenger Trophy, took to the crease after Pooja Vastrakar and Harmanpreet Kaur fell in quick succession. With Mumbai Indians needing five runs from the final ball, Sajana’s powerful hit over long-on ignited celebrations in the Indian camp.

MI’s chase of 172 started with setbacks as Mathews and Sciver-Brunt fell early. Bhatia and Kaur stabilized the innings, but Bhatia’s dismissal brought tension. Despite Kaur’s efforts, DC had the upper hand. Capsey’s superb innings had earlier propelled DC to 171. Ismail and Ishaque contained DC’s start well. The match culminated with Sajana’s last-ball six, sealing a thrilling win for MI.
