Wriddhiman Saha Comments On Ishan Kishan And Shreyas Iyer’s Contract Snub – On Wednesday, February 28, the BCCI unveiled the annual central contract for the senior men’s team cricketers for the 2023-24 cycle. In a noteworthy development, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan have been omitted from the annual contract list, despite their involvement in India’s ODI World Cup campaign last year.
The exclusion of these two players follows reports indicating their insufficient dedication to Test cricket, a matter that has drawn scrutiny from both the BCCI and Indian team management. Consequently, the BCCI has taken a decisive step in addressing their situation. This decision shows the importance the BCCI places on commitment to all formats of the game, particularly Test cricket, which is considered the pinnacle of the sport. It serves as a reminder to players about the expectations and responsibilities that come with representing the national team.
While the exclusion may come as a setback for Iyer and Kishan, it also presents them with an opportunity to reflect on their priorities and make necessary adjustments to their approach to the game. Moreover, it sends a clear message to all players about the standards required to maintain a position in the national squad. Adaptability and commitment remain integral traits for players aspiring to succeed at the highest level. The BCCI’s decision regarding Iyer and Kishan reaffirms this principle and sets a precedent for accountability within the Indian cricketing fraternity.
Reportedly experiencing mental health fatigue during the South Africa tour, Ishan took a break from cricket. However, he recently made a comeback in the DY Patil T20 tournament. Opting out of the Ranji Trophy, he prioritised preparation for IPL 2024, and that drew the backlash from the BCCI.
Wriddhiman Saha Comments On Ishan Kishan And Shreyas Iyer’s Contract Snub
Wriddhiman Saha expressed his view on the matter, stating that decisions regarding participation rest with the BCCI and individual players. He emphasized the importance of maintaining fitness and playing whenever possible, including club and domestic matches. Saha highlighted the significance of treating all matches equally, advocating for a mindset focused on consistent performance. He underscored the value of domestic cricket, citing the example of Sarfaraz Khan’s consistent run-scoring over the past few years as evidence of its importance in nurturing talent and contributing to the success of Indian cricket.
Wriddhiman said: “That is BCCI’s decision and personal decision of concerned players. Forcefully, you can’t do anything. Whenever I am fit I play, even I played club matches, office matches as well. I always treat a match as a match. All matches are equal for me. If every player thinks on those lines, they will only prosper in their career and it will be better for Indian cricket as well. I feel the importance of domestic cricket is always there because if I talk about Sarfaraz Khan, he had scored plenty of runs in the last 4-5 years. Definitely, he has delivered.”
