Mumbai opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, on Friday, created history and joined the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, and Wasim Jaffer in an elite list after he slammed a ton against Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy semi-final at Bangalore’s Just Cricket Academy.

The 21-year-old southpaw was in superb touch in the IPL 2022 for the Rajasthan Royals and has continued his form in the Ranji knockouts.

Jaiswal became only the 9th Mumbai batsman in Ranji Trophy history to record a century in both innings of a Ranji Trophy match!

The left-hander had hit 100 runs in the first innings and followed it up with a marathon knock of 181 runs in the second innings to help the 41-time Ranji champions take a lead of 662 runs by stumps on Day 4 with the side having all but sealed their final spot.

This is, in fact, Jaiswal’s third century in three innings on a trot after he hit 103 in the second innings of the quarter-final against Jharkhand.

Jaiswal opened his account after 54 balls before making his century

Mumbai captain Prithvi Shaw went gung-ho at the start of their second innings and Jaiswal didn’t score a single run in their 66-run opening stand. After Shaw got out, Jaiswal opened his account on the 54th delivery he faced before ransacking his third first-class ton.

Before Yashasvi Jaiswal, some of the greats of Indian cricket have made twin centuries in a Ranji match for Mumbai – including Tendulkar, Rohit, Rahane and Jaffer.

Wasim Jaffer’s nephew Armaan Jaffer notched up his century as well, scoring 127 runs as Mumbai posted 449 with their lead swelling over 650.

In the other semi-final, in Alur, Bengal need 254 runs more runs against Madhya Pradesh but have already lost 4 wickets. The final will be played next week in Bangalore.
