After taking an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the ongoing 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, the Indian cricket team is currently locking its horns against the islanders in the 3rd ODI match. While team India has already won the series, but a win in this third and final SL vs. IND ODI match will go a long way toward helping the Men in Blue prepare for the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup.

As the game kickstarted, Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first. The Indian side made a solid start all thanks to the amazing opening partnership of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. While Rohit was dismissed after scoring just 42 runs, on the other hand, Shubman Gill scored a sensational ton in the third ODI between India and Sri Lanka on Sunday to strengthen his case as regular opener in the ODI format.

Shubman played a sensational knock of 116 runs off 97 balls in the match at Thiruvananthapuram. His amazing knock was laced with  14 fours and two sixes. This was Gill’s second ODI century and with this knock he sent a strong message to his critics who had  lambasted the Team India management for picking him as Rohit’s partner for the series instead of Ishan Kishan. Shubman was joined by Virat Kohli in the middle, who is also going strong in the innings and is on his way to score another century.

Meanwhile, social media has been buzzing with amazing reactions from the fans to the stellar knock played by Shubman Gill. Among many, former Indian cricketer and World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh also took to his social media and hailed Shubman Gill for his knock. In his Tweet, he also praised Virat Kohli for his amazing knock. However, Yuvraj Singh also expressed his disappointment on ‘half-empty’ stadiums. He wrote:

“Well played @ShubmanGill hopefully goes on to make a 💯 @imVkohli batting at the other end looking Solid ! But concern for me half empty stadium ? Is one day cricket dying ? #IndiavsSrilanka”
