Yuzvendra Chahal Replies To BCCI Contract Axing With A 4-For In DY Patil T20 Cup

Ahead of the IPL 2024 season, senior leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal produced a brilliant performance in the DY Patil T20 Cup tournament in Mumbai. This match-winning four-for from Chahal came only a few days after being dropped from the BCCI central contract list for 2023/24.

Yuzvendra Chahal is playing for the ‘Income Tax’ team in the DY Patil T20 Cup which includes other high-profile India cricketers such as Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya as they all are looking to warm up ahead of the IPL 2024 season, which starts on March 22.

At the DY Patil University Ground, against Canara Bank, Chahal returned with sensational figures of 4/22 in his spell of four overs that helped his side, Incom Tax, win the game by a huge margin of 135 runs.

Yuzvendra Chahal showed his astuteness as a leg-spinner and conceded only two fours and maintained the control, pressurizing the opposition with 10 dot balls in his spell of 24 balls in the innings. Batting first, Income Tax posted a massive total of 244/5, riding on Vishal More’s 28-ball 61-run innings and Sumit Kumar’s 18-ball 53. Kumar gave the finishing touch as he blasted 5 sixes and 4 fours to take Income Tax close to 250.

In reply, Canara Bank succumbed to the wily leg-spin of Yuzvendra Chahal as the 33-year-old returned with a four-wicket haul. This will get Chahal in the right rhythm ahead of the IPL 2024 season, where he will look to make a strong case for selection in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, which will be played immediately after the IPL concludes.

Chahal is India’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is, with 96 scalps. However, currently he is not part of India’s best XI, and his place is not secure for the T20 World Cup either with Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel being the preferred spinners or spinning all-rounders.

The dropping from the Indian team in both ODI and T20I formats further led to his axing from the BCCI central contract list.

Rajasthan Royals will begin their IPL 2024 campaign on March 24 against LSG in Jaipur.
