ZIM vs IND: Here’s Why Shikhar Dhawan Was Wearing Shardul Thakur’s Jersey In 3rd ODI: India and Zimbabwe took the field on Monday for the third ODI. Although it was a dead rubber, as India have already sealed the series with wins in the first two matches, it was still an opportunity for the Indian fringe players to stake their claim for selection in the future.
One batsman who certainly make most of the occasion was Shubman Gill – batting at number 3, the 22-year-old notched up his maiden ODI and international century – a knock of 130 runs in 97 balls, helping India reach the total of 289 after a slow start from openers Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul, the pair scoring 63 runs in 90 balls.

Interestingly, one thing about Shikhar Dhawan which caught the attention of the fans – apart from his slow, snail-paced knock of 40 runs from 68 balls – was his jersey: Dhawan had come out to bat wearing Shardul Thakur’s jersey; the name of his t-shirt was taped, but the number of Thakur was clearly visible.
Fans were wondering what had happened to Dhawan’s jersey that he needed to wear someone else’s!
One fan uploaded a picture of Dhawan in Thakur’s attire on Twitter:

Shikhar Dhawan finally wears received his jersey
Thankfully, Shikhar Dhawan got his jersey after India’s innings – as when the Indians came out to the field, Dhawan was seen in his own jersey.

Earlier, on the West Indies tour, there was quite a misplacing of the kits. Deepak Hooda was seen in Prasidh Krishna’s jersey; and in one of the T20Is, as many as three other Indian cricketers had to wear Arshdeep Singh’s t-shirt.
Shubman Gill finally reached his century
Shikhar Dhawan finished the 3 ODI series in Zimbabwe with scores of 81*, 33 and 40. But it was Shubman Gill who will be the biggest positive from this series: his scores read: 82*, 33 and 130.
Gill had got scores of64, 43 and 98 in West Indies and 82* in Zimbabwe. The smile on his face after reaching the three-figure mark today told everything.
