The 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League kickstarted on a great note for Virat Kohli and co. as they defeated Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians in the season opener by 2 wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

The season opener turned out to be a last-ball thriller and all thanks to the amazing performances by Harshal Patel, AB de Villiers, RCB was able to defeat Mumbai Indians.




However, as the match became more thrilling and escalated towards the end, RCB skipper Virat Kohli survived a major injury scare. Virat was hit by the ball on his face during the Mumbai innings, which also left his eyes swollen however, the RCB skipper’s determination remained intact despite the blow.

The scary moment happened in the first delivery of the 19th over when Kohli tried to grab an incoming shot off Krunal Pandya’s bat. However, usually known for his safest hands, Kohli failed to hold the ball this time, as it hit his hands and then his face. The ball slipped past Virat’s finger and hit him under his right eye.




As Virat touched the area that was hit by the ball, fans across social media started worrying about the seriousness of the injury. However, fans got a sigh of relief as Virat soon had a smile on his face as he continued to play on and did not go off the field. Infact, Virat showed immense determination as he continued to play after the blow. Despite concerns by the commentators, Virat walked out to bat for his team RCB during their chase.
