Shardul Thakur has wonderfully created space for himself in the Indian cricket team. In the past few Test series, he has emerged out to be India’s crisis man as he has always provided India with some crucial breakthroughs. Yet again, in the first Test match against England, Shardul bowled his heart out and provided his team with the most crucial wicket of the match.
The Indian bowlers gave a phenomenal performance, which led to England’s batting order collapsed on Day 1. However, skipper Joe Root was the lone man standing and fighting for his team, while the wickets kept falling on the other end.
Joe Root looked solid before he was trapped by Shardul Thakur lbw, ending a fine knock that included 11 boundaries. Apart from him, no one in the England squad offered resistance. He was turning into a threat, however, Virat Kohli handed over the ball to Shardul, who once again turned out to be the crisis man.
Shardul didn’t stop there, he backed it up with yet another scalp in the same over as he got rid of Ollie Robinson for a duck. If picking two wickets in an over is an art, Thakur is turning out to be a Picasso of it. Earlier this year in March, Thakur picked two wickets in one over in three consecutive matches. Once again, last night, he removed Joe Root and Ollie Robinson in the same over.
