Of age only 22, Yashasvi Jaiswal became the third Indian batsman, after Vinod Kambli in 1993 and Virat Kohli in 2017, to record double-centuries in consecutive Tests. This is not even the biggest record the youngster has created during the ongoing Test series against England.
In only 3 Tests, Yashasvi Jaiswal has slammed 20 sixes, which is the most number of sixes a batsman has hit in a Test series – and there are two more matches to go. During his sizzling knock of 214 in Rajkot, the left-hander walloped 12 sixes – the joint-record with Wasim Akram for most sixes in a Test innings.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is having a terrific start to his Test career. In 7 Tests, he has notched up two double centuries and another score of 171, and averages a whopping 71 right now. The southpaw has whacked 25 sixes in his carer so far, which is already one more six than KL Rahul and one less than Virat Kohli!
If he continues like this for the next few years, Jaiswal will be challenging Virender Sehwag’s record of 90 sixes, the most by an Indian in Test cricket.
The key feature of Jaiswal’s double century in Rajkot, which eventually helped India set England at huge target of 557 runs, was the display of his power, timing, and range. Not since George Bailey in the 2013 Ashes Test in Perth has anyone hammered James Anderson in Test cricket as Jaiswal did in Rajkot, clobbering three consecutive sixes to the man who is only four wickets shy of 700 Test scalps.
Fans and ex-cricketers lavished huge praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal for his blockbuster double century in Rajkot:
After the game, the youngster spoke of his struggles growing up and how that made him resilient and motivated him to work harder.
“In India, when grow up, you work really hard for each and everything” he told Jio Cinema, “Even when getting the bus you have to work really hard to get the bus. You have to work really hard to get to the train and auto[rickshaw] and everything and I have done that since my childhood and I know how important every innings is and that’s why I really work hard in my [practice] sessions and every innings counts for me and for my team that is my biggest motivation to play for my country and I just make sure that whenever I’m there I need to give my 100% and then enjoy.”
