Any player with the dual skillset of batting and bowling – be it as a batting all-rounder or a bowling all-rounder, where the second skillset – is an asset for his team, and is a useful component for his side. In Test cricket, we see it on a regular basis were a part-time bowler picks up a crucial wicket, or a bowler helps out his team with the bat.

For example, recently, in the first Ashes 2023 Test at Edgbaston, Joe Root picked up the big wicket of Alex Carey, before Pat Cummins took his side over the line with a calm, calculated batting show.

There is a small list of only 3 Test cricketers who have achieved the double of scoring over 10,000 runs and also picking up over 50 wickets.

Test cricketers with over 10000 runs and 50 wickets:

Jack Kallis

Arguably the greatest all-rounders to have played Test cricket – the stats do put him right above everyone else in the all-rounder category – the legendary South African all-rounder Jack Kallis had an illustrious Test career spanning 18 years and 166 Tests.

With 13289 Test runs at an average of 55, with 45 centuries, Jacques Kallis is the third-highest Test run-scorer. Add to it his 292 Test wickets at an average of 32, which makes him the most successful all-rounder in the longest format.

Steve Waugh

Former Australia captain Steve Waugh‘s name might surprise fans here. Because while Waugh’s feat of 10927 runs in 168 Tests isn’t surprising, his taking 92 wickets with his part-time medium pace is revealing. Captain to one of the most successful and strongest Test teams ever, Waugh hit 32 Test tons.

Joe Root

Joe Root is the first, and currently the only, member of the Fab 4 to have amassed over 10,000 Test runs. The former England skipper averages 50 in the longest format with 30 centuries to his name. Root also has assisted his side greatly with his part-time off-spin and has taken 55 wickets, including a five-for in Ahmedabad.

So, these are the three great cricketers who have achieved an unimaginable feat of scoring more than 10,0o0 runs and taking more than 50 wickets in Test cricket. They have an elite league of their own which is one of the most difficult league to enter for any cricketer. All 3 of them are also greta ambassador of the game and have fans all across the world for their exceptional cricketing skills. test
