The ‘Thala’ Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings successfully lifted their fourth trophy of the Indian Premier League by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders in the final showdown by 27 runs. The final was played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, where CSK won the IPL 2021, which is their fourth title won by Chennai Super Kings (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021).
The match that kickstarted with the thrilling note for Chennai Super Kings soon became a one-sided match in the end when Kolkata Knight Riders’ middle-order once again collapsed in the chase. The Chennai Super Kings’ players gave a terrific performance as a ‘team’ in all the formats of the game to snatch the game out of KKR’s hands.
Chasing a target of 193 runs, KKR suffered an embarrassing collapse after a fabulous start by their openers. Both the openers– Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer gave a flying start to their team and attacked CSK bowlers from the word go. However, their 91-run stand for the first wicket came to an end after Iyer was sent back to the pavilion off a Shardul Thakur delivery.
This was the moment when the match started slipping from the hands of KKR. Seven wickets fell in the next six overs for just 32 runs which turned the match upside down in favor of CSK. Apart from Shubman Gill and V.Iyer, no other batsman managed to get into double figures, revealing the poor form of KKR’s middle-order.
Talking about the CSK players, Shubman Gill ended the game with figures of 3/38 in his quota of four overs and he was well supported by the Australian pacer, Josh Hazlewood, who chipped in with a couple of wickets.
Earlier, the opening duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis gave a stunning performance to set a platform for the rest of the team. They maintained their momentum throughout their innings. Even after Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed, Robin Uthappa caught the momentum and played a fine knock. Eventually, they put up 192 on the board which turned out to be a mountain for the Knight Riders.
Meanwhile, as soon as Chennai Super Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders, social media was flooded with amazing reactions. Twitterati went berserk, literally, after the stunning win from the Yellow Army. From fans, cricketers to experts, everyone took to their social media to hail the Super Kings for their amazing comeback.
