The IPL 2024 will get underway on March 22, Friday, with the defending champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) hosting Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Chepauk.
The tournament will be the 17th edition of the IPL.
There are a few rules that the fans, players, and coaches need to get used to knowing for the IPL 2024 as it could make a huge difference in the eventual results of the match and the competition. The BCCI has introduced a couple of rules to IPL 2024 that are not even used in the T20Is in ICC’s playing conditions.
3 Important Rules Of IPL 2024 That Fans Should Know:

Two bouncers per over
In an unprecedented tournament, the IPL 2024 will be the first IPL season where bowlers will be allowed to bowl two bouncers per over. This opens up a huge variety of options and planning for the bowlers and bowling coaches, and this could be very useful for them in death overs.
Earlier this year, the BCCI introduced the second bouncer rule in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), India’s premier domestic T20 tournament. The board has decided to persist with this rule in the IPL as well.
The ICC has allowed two bouncers in ODIs and Tests, but not in T20Is.
Laxmipathy Balaji, the former CSK bowling coach, welcomed this move from BCCI. Balaji told Cricbuzz, “It’s an excellent move. It will be a good addition to the armoury of fast bowlers and will provide bowlers, captains, and coaching staff with something to strategize and work with for a particular batsman. It will also make the contest between bat and ball much more balanced.”
No stop clock rule
The BCCI has decided not to include the stop clock rule for IPL 2024. On the other hand, the ICC has made this rule permanent in T20Is and ODIs to conclude the matches on time and not let them drag away.
In this rule, the fielding team must be ready to bowl the next over within 60 seconds of the completion of the previous over. Failure to do so thrice in an innings will lead to five penalty runs. The BCCI could use this rule from next year in the IPL.
Third umpire to check for catch when checking for stumping
The board has also confirmed that the third umpires should check for a catch when they are asked to check a stumping. The ICC, though, has mended its rule wherein the third umpire will only check for a stumping when a stumping referral is made.
