3 Mistakes Rohit Sharma Shouldn’t Make In The Asia Cup 2022 As Captain

Asia Cup 2022 will be the first major multi-national event where Rohit Sharma will be leading the Indian contingent to war. It would be everything but easy with the tournament being against Pakistan and the urge to win against the arch-rivals for India will be sky-high, especially after their defeat in the T20I World Cup.

People blamed Virat Kohli for the 2021 debacle, pointing out that a few decisions taken by the Indian captain weren’t bang on their money. With all said and done, this is a new era and Team India will be approaching a new horizon with the Hitman putting up decent numbers so far.

Here are three errors that we would not like Rohit Sharma to commit as the skipper of the Indian national team, especially under challenging circumstances which haunted the men in blue a year back.

3 Mistakes Rohit Sharma Shouldn’t Make In The Asia Cup 2022 As Captain

#1 Experimenting during the tournament makes zero sense

After a batting fiasco against Pakistan, somehow India was convinced that sending Ishan Kishan to open the innings in the second T20I would solve all their problems. Keeping it as simple as this, sending out a new batter to the helm of affairs, that too against the new ball in the swinging pitches of UAE is like asking a kid to take on a full-grown lion. India have had enough chances to experiment with their line-up. Asia Cup should be the mini-litmus test ahead of the T20I World Cup later this year. The experiments must come to a total halt and India should be thinking about stitching together a dream combination that can change the fate of the Blue Tigers.

#2 Need to rely on experienced campaigners to bail out the contests in Asia Cup 2022

The second T20I contest against West Indies saw him handing over the final over of the contest to Avesh Khan while the latter got totally decimated with the hosts walking away with the bragging rights within the first two balls of the over. However, what came as a shocker to everyone was that Bhuvi still had one over to go and somehow Rohit wanted to check out how confident was Avesh. The result was for everyone to see. Let’s just hope that it was a one-off and the Hitman doesn’t pull off such stunts for a second time.

#3 Will have to be extra precautious with the bowling maneuvers

India may have a very deep batting unit but with Bumrah out of the equation, they will need options to bolster their bowling unit. Bhuvi is in a decent run at the moment will be the undoubted vanguard of India’s bowling unit. However, apart from Bhuvi the remaining options aren’t as experienced and will be needing a good deal of expertise to lead the charge for Team India in such a grand event. Rohit Sharma will need too have a clear mind about which bowler should be used in which segment to shape up the contest in a manner that would ultimately be favouring Team India.
