But a sixer becomes even more special when it comes during the beginning of the match as it sets the vibe right from the beginning. Over the years, there have been many cricketers who have smashed sixes in the first over the match, however, there have been a few cricketers who have done this again and again.

5. David Warner – 7 Times:




Australia’s explosive batsman David Warner is at the fifth position in this list. He is known for pulling off some stunning shots and his powerful batting. He makes good use of powerplay for his team. David Warner has smashed sixes in the first overs of the match 7 times.

4. Shahid Afridi  – 9 Times:

Former Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi is considered as the sixer king of ODIs as he has hit the most sixes in his ODI cricket for his country. During the early days of his career, Shahid Afridi used to bat in the top-order for his team. During his glorious career, he has smashed sixes in the first over 9 times.

3. Adam Gilchrist – 10 Times:

Former Australian Adam Gilchrist has been one of the most destructive batsmen in cricket history. Adam Gilchrist, who used to open for his team in ODIs and in middle-order in the longest format of the game, however, he was explosive in both the formats of the game. During his career, Adam Gilchrist has smashed sixes in the first overs of the ODI match 10 times.

2. Sanath Jayasuriya – 13 Times:

Sanath Jayasuriya, former Sri Lankan opener is regarded as the best batsman as far as the power play is concerned. Jayasuriya started the trend of explosive batting in ODIs from the beginning of the game. During his career, he hit sixes in the first overs 13 times.

1. Virender Sehwag – 15 Times:

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag tops this list of most sixes in the first overs of the match. During his glorious career, Virender Sehwag has smashed sixes maximum number of times in the first overs of ODI format. Besides this, he is also the batsman to have hit the boundaries maximum number of times.
