The game of cricket is a statistician’s delight. There are so many records that are created on an almost everyday basis. However, there are certain records that are not so aspirational but have unfortunately been bestowed upon certain players and teams. Here are 7 of them:
Most bowled in Test History
Did you know Rahul Dravid is the most bowled batsman in history? The Wall has had his defences breached on multiple occasions during his long playing career. So much so, that he is the most bowled batsman in Test history with him watching his stumps being clattered an unwanted 54 times.
Most runs in an over in Tests
Another legendary figure who has an unwanted record in the game is English pacer James Anderson. Jimmy has the most wickets for England in Test history but one of those overs that he bowled yielded 28 runs.
George Bailey was the batsman on the other end who punished the Englishman during an Ashes series.
Most runs without a wicket
Imran Tahir, the bearded, excitable South African spinner is another one who has the record for conceding the most number of runs without a wicket. The South African toiled for 37 long overs but was belted to all parts of the park.
He conceded a record 267 runs in those overs and did no pick up even one wicket.
Longest over in cricket
Bowling an over is an easy task. All you have to do is make sure that you place your foot behind the crease and throw the ball into a good area. Repeat the process six times and you have an over to your name. However, 17 balls to complete an over is a little bit of an understatement and Mohammad Sami performed the excruciating task of bowling that many deliveries.
In a match against the West Indies back in 2004, Sami gave away 7 no balls and 4 wides to finish a mammoth over.
Most ducks in ODIs
For the most ducks in ODIs, you’d expect a tail-ender with poor batting skill to take home the unwanted award. However, not one would have thought Sanath Jayasuriya holds the record. The Sri Lankan legend, who amassed more than 10,000 runs in ODIs, has been out for naught 34 times in the shorter format of the game.
Most time for a century
A century is a record that is special to any batsman as it requires great patience and determination to get. Some people will bide their time and make sure that they get to the milestone no matter what. Ask Mudassar Nazar, the Pakistani batsman who reached his century in just 557 minutes. Yawn.
Golden duck on your golden day
Reaching 100 Tests is a milestone that is considered to be one of the highest points in your professional career as a cricketer. However, to get out on the first ball is something you would not envision. Alastair Cook, England’s brilliant opening batsman fell for 0 during the second innings of his 100th Test match. Talk about spoiling the party.
