England’s newly appointed Test captain and one of the best batsmen in world cricket across all three formats of the game, Joe Root picked his ‘All Time XI’ for Lord’s Cricket Ground’s YouTube channel.
Root, who has worked extremely hard on his game in the last 4 years or so and established himself as one the stalwarts of modern-day cricket, picked a very balanced team, with some legends from the pasts and modern-day stars.
Root picked his fellow Englishmen to open the innings. The stylish English right-handed picked Michael Vaughan and Alastair Cook to open the innings. Both are very technically correct batsmen who also captained England for a long period. Root also gave the captainship responsibility to his former captain Alastair Cook.
At number 3, Root picked former Indian batsman and arguably the greatest ever, Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin’s friend and arguably the greatest allrounder in the history of the game, Kallis was picked for the number 4 spot by Joe Root.
Root’s Indian counterpart and one of the most exciting batsmen to watch, Virat Kohli would play at number 5. Root said that Kohli’s ability to construct an innings is incredible. At number 6 is the most entertaining batsman in the world, AB de Villiers. Number 7 in Root’s all time XI is Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara, who would also keep wickets.
At number 8 is another England legend Andrew Flintoff. One of the hardest hitters of the cricket ball and a very aggressive fast bowler.
The bowling will consist of Shane Warne, Mitchell Johnson and Glenn McGrath.
