[World Cup 2023] “Rohit Sharma Is Maturing Really Nicely As A Captain”: Adam Gilchrist

In the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023, the Indian captain Rohit Sharma has impressed one and all not just as a batter but also as a captain, who is leading his troop with distinction.

The former Australian cricketer and a legend in the world of cricket – Mr. Adam Gilchrist hailed Rohit Sharma for his captaincy skills, particularly highlighting his decision-making skills and composure under pressure.

Rohit Sharma’s captaincy in the ongoing World Cup has been admirable. Ahead of the World Cup, there were questions about his ability as he had inherited the role from illustrious predecessors like MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. However, Rohit has managed to silence all his critics.

One of his best qualities as a captain has been his ability to make effective changes in the bowling. The same was pointed out by legendary cricketer Adam Gilchrist.

Gilchrist pointed out a specific instance during the India-Pakistan match, where Rohit Sharma showed immense faith in pacer Mohammed Siraj. Despite Siraj being hit for multiple boundaries in his initial overs, Rohit Sharma continued to back him and Siraj eventually repaid his faith. Speaking about the same, Gilchrist said:

“Something that I have actually, really been impressed by and I think he is really matured in peaking at the right time is Rohit Sharma’s leadership and captaincy, and some of his decision making and little sort of bowling changes. It is such a tough job isn’t it, being captain of India, particularly when you’re coming on the back of the likes of MS Dhoni and then Virat.”

He added:

“People question whether he should be in the captain’s position but I reckon he’s really maturing nicely, and just some middle things, something like Mohammed Siraj gets hit for three fours in his first over, he gives him another one and he gets hit for another four or maybe third over went for one or two boundaries but he sort of kept backing him. At other times captains and Indian skippers with all the pressure can have major reactions and I think Rohit’s maturing really nicely.”
