Even though some fans and reports speculate that the T20I career of Rohit Sharma has come to an end, either on his own terms or the selectors deciding to move on, the senior India opener and captain had earlier expressed his excitement at the prospect of the playing the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA.
The T20 World Cup 2024 next year in June will be co-hosted by the West Indies and the USA. The US has emerged as a new cricket market in the world. The first season of the Major League Cricket (MLC) was played earlier this year, and the ICC had already given the USA the co-hosting duties of the T20 WC 2024. Recently, cricket was also confirmed to return to the Olympics after over 100 years in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
Earlier this year, when India toured the West Indies for a multi-format tour, Rohit Sharma attended an event in the USA. In the event, Rohit alluded to the T20 World Cup to be played next year in the USA and that he’s looking forward to that.
“More than just going and enjoying, there is another reason to come here (in the USA). Because you know the World Cup is coming. In June, there will be the T20 World Cup (2024) happening in this part of the world. So, I’m pretty sure everyone is excited. So yaa, we look forward to that,” Rohit said in a video that is going viral on social media.

I want to see Rohit Sharma captain in the T20 World Cup 2024: Gautam Gambhir

Former India batsman Gautam Gambhir feels that Rohit Sharma should continue as India’s T20 captain and should lead the side in next year’s T20 World Cup. Gambhir also said Virat Kohli, too, should feature in the T20 World Cup next year, though both superstar cricketers are on the wrong side of their 30s.
“Absolutely, both [Kohli and Rohit] need to be picked, both should be picked. And, more importantly, I want to see Rohit Sharma captain in the T20 World Cup. Yes, Hardik Pandya has captained in T20Is, but I still want to see Rohit Sharma captain in the T20 World Cup,” Gambhir said on Sportskeeda.
