As India look to prepare their youngsters for next year’s T20 World Cup, it wasn’t a bright start for young opener Ruturaj Gaikwad in the first T20I against Australia in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.
Just three days after India and Australia contested the World Cup 2023 final, the two teams were at each other again, though in a different format – T20I – and with mostly different players than the ones who featured in the final in Ahmedabad. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is also the vice-captain, the deputy to interim skipper Suryakumar Yadav, for this series, got out for a duck without even facing a ball today.
Ruturaj Gaikwad bagged a Diamond Duck, which is dismissal for a duck without even getting to face a single ball. This happened today in Visakhapatnam as Gaikwad got run-out in the first over of India’s innings itself.
Yashasvi Jaiswal tapped a short ball from Marcus Stoinis on the legside and both batters set off. After they completed the single, both even started running for a second run, but the throw from deep was in by that time, and Jaiswal had to deny the second, leaving Ruturaj Gaikwad stranded in the middle of the pitch as he got out for a Diamond Duck.
This led to a spate of trolling of Gaikwad on Twitter with funny tweets and memes.
