Being given the faith over senior leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, young leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi made an instant impact in the first T20I against Australi, by taking opener Matt Short’s wicket with a superb googly.
Just three days after India and Australia contested the World Cup 2023 final, the two teams were at each other again, though in a different format – T20I – and with mostly different players than the ones who featured in the final in Ahmedabad.
As India start their preparation for next year’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies, the selectors’ eyes will be on Ravi Bishnoi, who started impressively against Australia in Visakhapatnam.
India’s interim skipper Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and elected to bowl first in Visakhapatnam. With David Warner, Travis Head, and Mitchell Marsh all rested, Australia opened with Steve Smith and Matt Short in Visakhapatnam. The duo got off to a good start, taking 30 runs off the first four overs, but the partnership was broken in the 5th over by the 23-year-old Ravi Bishnoi.
Bishnoi bowled a full-length googly just outside the off-stump. Short looked to smack it into the off-side but missed the ball completely. The ball spun just a little bit and crashed into the off-stump.

Fans were happy to see Bishnoi get a brilliant start against Australia. Indian fans felt if Bishnoi continued to do well, Chahal wouldn’t come back in the side.
