A brutal yorker from Australia speedster Mitchell Starc injured West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph when the two clashed in West Indies‘ second innings of the Test match at the Gabba in Brisbane. Such fierce was the effect of the yorker from the left-armer that Joseph had to retire out and he didn’t come out to bowl either.

Mitchell Starc is one of the fastest and deadliest bowlers in the world, whose both yorkers and bouncers are capable of physically and psychologically hurting a batsman. Then what chance Shamar Joseph, the number 11, stood against a tailing yorker from Starc?

With the pink ball, which is already known to do extra under lights in the third session of a day-night Test match, Mitchell Starc hurled a pinpoint accurate yorker at the toes of Joseph. The left-handed batsman tried to bring his bat down but was late in it.

Even if the umpire denied the LBW appeal from Starc, as the ball seemed to be swinging down the legside, it hurt Joseph and caused huge pain. He quickly took out his shoe and sock as the West Indies team physio ran to the ground to treat him.

The West Indies decided to retire out as he couldn’t even stand or walk properly and couldn’t apply any pressure on the injured leg. Starc gave a pat on the back to Shamar as he started to walk off. It needed the physio and his teammate to help him get off the field. Unsurprisingly, Joseph didn’t come out to bowl. It was later learned that Shamar would go for scans to check if there was any injury in his leg.

West Indies set Australia a target of 216 runs. By stumps, Australia lost Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschange, and need 156 more runs with 8 wickets in hand to win the Brisbane Test and seal the series 2-0.
