Nasser Hussain Slammed Ben Duckett: England’s Ben Duckett has found himself at the receiving end of criticism and trolling after he made a surprising statement suggesting that England’s aggressive batting in Test cricket influenced India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s attacking double hundred during the Rajkot Test. He believed that it was England’s bold approach or ‘Bazball’ that had compelled their opponents, like India, to adopt their aggressive playing style.

However, his comments haven’t gone down well with many as he has faced criticism from numerous cricket experts, including Michael Vaughan and Geoffrey Boycott. Now former England cricketer Nasser Hussain has dismissed Duckett’s claim and has suggested that the England batters should reflect on their own performances and take inspiration from Yashasvi Jaiswal’s impressive double century.

Speaking with Mike Atherton on Sky Sports Cricket, Hussain said: “He’s not learnt from you. He’s learnt from his upbringing, all the hard yards he had to put in growing up. If anything, lads, look at him and learn from him. I hope there’s a little bit of self-introspection going on. Otherwise it becomes a cult – and, at times, Bazball and this regime has been described as such, where you cannot criticise within or externally.”

He added: “When you’re living in an environment in a bubble that has got so much good messaging and positive vibes, you go into a press conference and you’re never going to step back and go, ‘they may have got too many and we’re just going to play for a draw’. I enjoy their positivity but there has to be a little bit of realism in there as well. Obviously, chasing 600 in India batting last is not a particularly good option to look.”

Notably, Jaiswal has been the highest run-getter in the series so far, amassing 545 runs across six innings with an impressive average of 109. He has achieved back-to-back double centuries in consecutive Tests, culminating in an unbeaten 214 in Rajkot, setting England a daunting target of 557 runs.
