IPL 2024: SRH Have A New Captain As Aiden Markram Faces Sack Despite SA20 Titles

Australian Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins will be leading the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2024. Despite leading the Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) to two consecutive SA20 titles, Aiden Markram is set to face the sack as the skipper of SRH ahead of the IPL 2024.

With less than 20 days left to go for the start of the IPL 2024 season, Cricbuzz has reported that the Kavya Maran-owned IPL franchise will make a big change in their top-level leadership position as Pat Cummins, who led Australia to the WTC 2023 final and World Cup 2023 victories last year, will replace Aiden Markram at the helm.

This also now means that Markram won’t be a certain starter in the playing XI of SRH, who also have apart from Cummins, Travis Head, Hasaranga, Marco Jansen, and Glenn Phillips in their squad.

Pat Cummins was bought by SRH for a huge amount of INR 20.5 crore in the IPL 2024 auction a couple of months ago and is the second-most expensive all-time IPL player.

Apart from Cummins’ success as Australia’s captain, his working with SRH’s head coach Daniel Vettori in the Australian team also could have had an influence on this decision by the franchise.

Although Aiden Makram failed to lead SRH to playoffs last season in the IPL, he captained the Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) to two SA20 title wins in a row.

A report in Cricbuzz said, “Cummins’ illustrious achievements at the international level, including his contributions to Australia’s triumph in the World Test Championship (WTC) and World Cup, both at the expense of the Indian team, may ultimately influence the decision of the management to place faith in his leadership.”
