Former CSK captain MS Dhoni showed his quick reflexes and sharp eyesight by making a sensational direct hit run out of RCB’s Anuj Rawat on Friday at Chepauk.
The IPL 2024 season kicked off on Friday evening at Chepauk in Chennai with the defending champions, CSK, hosting Faf du Plessis’ RCB. Du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat first. RCB scored 173/6 with the help of impressive knocks from Faf, Anuj Rawat, and Dinesh Karthik.
Anuj Rawat, who scored 48 runs in 25 balls with the help of 4 fours and 3 sixes, got run out on the last ball of RCB’s innings, courtesy of a terrific direct hit from MS Dhoni, the CSK wicket-keeper.
Dinesh Karthik missed the last ball of the innings from Tushar Deshpande, and Rawat and Karthik set off for a quick single. The ball was collected straight into MS Dhoni’s mittens and the CSK keeper under-armed the throw on the stumps. The ball hit the base of the leg and middle stumps, and caught Rawat short of his crease, despite the batters’ extensive dive.
Dhoni’s direct hit was cheered loudly by the Chepauk crowd and a similar huge roar from the fans followed when it was confirmed that Rawat was run-out via the bull’s eye throw from the former CSK captain.

RCB got a quickfire start from Du Plessis, who scored 35 off 23, but then they suffered a collapse, going from 41/0 to 78/5. Rawat and Karthik then resurrected the innings with a brilliant partnership of 95 runs in 50 balls to take RCB to 173.
