MS Dhoni officially passed on the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad just before the IPL 2024 started. But Gaikwad shared that Dhoni had hinted about this during the previous season. Gaikwad, leading CSK for the first time in the opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, said he found out about the decision last week, although Dhoni had hinted at it a year ago.
Ruturaj Gaikwad Made A Big Statement On Captaincy
Meanwhile, after Faf du Plessis won the toss and decided to bat first, Ravi Shastri asked Ruturaj Gaikwad about his feelings about filling in the big shoes of MS Dhoni. Responding to this, CSK’s new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad said:
“Feel privileged at leading CSK. But I’m not looking to fill Mahi bhai’s shoes. I’m going to try and bring my own shoes. I got to know last week, but Mahi bhai hinted at it last year.”
As far as the team composition is concerned, Gaikwad added, “Everyone is experienced here, sadly we are missing Devon Conway and Matheesha Pathirana. We’ve got Rachin and Mitchell coming in though this year so they should fit in well. Looks like a good pitch, a hard surface that should hold up well for the second innings.”
