Rohit Sharma Does Not Consider His Aggressive Approach As The Reason Of India's Defeat

SL vs IND: India suffered a loss in the second ODI against Sri Lanka and are trailing in the series by a margin of 1-0. Even after the loss, captain Rohit Sharma is happy with his aggressive approach and wants to keep sticking by that.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first on a turning wicket. They posted a total of 240 runs on the board. India stumbled from 97-1 at one stage to 208 runs all-out. Sri Lanka’s Jeffrey Vandersay was the destroyer in chief as he picked up 6 wickets by giving away just 33 runs.

Captain Rohit Sharma was aggressive with the bat yet again and took India to a strong position with 64 off 44 balls innings. However, he gave away his wicket by trying to play a switch hit and opened the flood gates for Sri Lanka.

Sharma was however satisfied with his aggressive approach and stated that he got those 64 runs because of his approach. He added that if he continues to bat with that approach there will be risks. However, he is prepared to take that risk. His main intention is to take his team past the winning line.

“The reason I got 64 runs is because of the way I batted. When I bat like that there is bound to be risk taking and I’m not afraid to do that. Whenever you get out, whether you score 100, 50, or zero you feel disappointed if you don’t get across the line. But that won’t change my intent. We didn’t play good cricket, that’s why we lost the game,” Rohit said.

Rohit Sharma admitted that his team didn’t play consistently, which is crucial for winning games. He expressed disappointment but acknowledged that such days happen in cricket. He mentioned that the team tried to adapt to the situation by using a left-right batting combination to make strike rotation easier, but it didn’t work out. He praised Jeffrey for his excellent bowling performance, taking six wickets, and also commended Sri Lanka for playing well.

“If you want to win games, we understand we have to play consistent cricket and we failed to do that today. Disappointing, but these things happen. You have to adapt to what’s in front of you. With left-right, we felt it’d be slightly easier to rotate the strike, but that didn’t happen. Credit to Jeffrey, who bowled well and picked six wickets. Sri Lanka played really good cricket,” he added.
