IND vs AUS: Rohit Sharma Got Trolled For Failing In Mohali

India skipper Rohit Sharma didn’t have an ideal start to the T20I series against Australia. The India opener was dismissed for only 11 runs from the 9 balls he faced from the Aussie bowlers; on social media, this led to severe criticism and some trolling of the Indian skipper for his inconsistency.

Sharma had scored 72 off 41 balls vs Sri Lanka in his last match in the Asia Cup. But was dismissed cheaply in Mohali against Australia.

After being asked to bat first by Australian captain Aaron Finch, Rohit and KL Rahul started off cautiously in the first over, off Josh Hazlewood, who conceded only 4 runs in the opening over. In the next over, bowled by Pat Cummins, Rohit showed intent. On the third ball, he played a massive hoick but only inside-edged it onto his pads.

With three consecutive dots now, Rohit hit his and India’s first big shot – a fiercely hit pull to Cummins that went over the lanky Hazlewood at fine leg boundary; to be honest, though, Hazlewood would have been able to catch the ball had he been right on the edge of the fence, but he was a couple of yards inside the boundary line.

Sharma capitalized on Cummins being under pressure and carved him for a four on the last ball of the over.

In the next over, however, the Indian skipper couldn’t time well his flick shot off a good length delivery on the pads from Hazlewood. He whipped the ball, aiming for the mid-wicket boundary, but got toe-end of his bat and the ball flew toward the deep square leg region where Nathan Ellis ran in hard, slid under the ball to complete a good catch, ending Rohit’s short stay at the crease.

Rohit’s wicket for a low score elicited a flurry of memes on social media, with fans taking a dig at the Indian skipper.
